Force Friday came and went with very little to write home about from Fantasy Flight Games (FFG). Some people were disappointed, whilst others were quietly confident that something had been held back. Well, here’s the news those optimistic few have been waiting to hear.
Introducing – Star Wars Rebellion
Today, Fantasy Flight Games announced that they will be releasing a new Star Wars title to join their LCG, X-Wing, Armada and Imperial Assault successes. Introducing Star Wars Rebellion!
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Star Wars™: Rebellion, the board game of epic conflict between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance for two to four players!
Experience the Galactic Civil War like never before. In Rebellion, you control the entire Galactic Empire or the fledgling Rebel Alliance. You must command starships, account for troop movements, and rally systems to your cause. Featuring more than 150 plastic miniatures and two game boards that account for thirty-two of the Star Wars galaxy’s most notable systems, Rebellion features a scope that is as large and sweeping as the Star Wars universe deserves.
I for one, am a massive fan of the Imperial Assault game and fell into the category of those disappointed by the lack of big Force Friday announcements. However, after reading the newly released info and seeing the images that Fantasy Flight have put out there, I can’t wait to give Star Wars Rebellion a whirl. The FFG news article refers to some very interesting asymmetric gameplay with both sides having completely different play-styles along with talk about the original trilogy and luring rebels to the dark side!
Rebellion packs an astonishing amount of the classic Star Wars trilogy into a relatively compact ruleset. Each game round encompasses just three phases, yet as you play through those phases, you’ll encounter massive fleet battles, desperate attempts at espionage, Jedi training, political maneuverings, and even the possibility to lure important Rebel heroes to the dark side of the Force.
Finally, I wanted to show you some of the awesome figures that are going to appear in the game, for those who have been lusting for walkers and Death Stars in your FFG titles, then this is the game that’s going to scratch that itch! Check back for more details on Star Wars Rebellion as and when I hear anything!
