Krosmaster Arena Anime Miniatures Game…..MOBA Alive!!

Multiplayer Battle Arena in the flesh….I must be dreaming!

Krosmaster Arena is a miniatures board game that will appeal to any player of Multiplayer Online Battle Area games. It will also entice fans of miniature board games such as Super Dungeon Explore.  Now, when I heard about this game I thought I was dreaming, pre-painted miniatures that look fantastic, in a battle area similar to my favourite MOBA game and in an anime style.

Insomnia 49 and the Public Reaction…… I recognise that Champion!

Gamesquest brought along Krosmaster Arena to the massive LAN based event and much to my delight passed the game by, that was until we opened a box for display. Then to my horror everyone started buying the game, just on the strength of the miniatures. Then when we played it, I knew I wouldn’t be going home with a box of my own. There is a champion that can shoot arrows from nearly one end of the board to the other, another that shoots poison darts and one that can throw water bombs, remind you of any champions that you play online?

Beautiful to behold ……All games should have rulebooks like this!

Krosmaster Arena is a Player verses Player oriented board game that offers the craftiest tacticians the chance to challenge other players in heated battle. All players build their team using a pre-determined method, either using a point system, draft, or at random. Utilize your team’s various talents and abilities to create a powerful fighting force. Every figure has a point value attached to it to help balance things out. Sounds great right and the rulebook is fantastic. It contains all these small scenarios printed in it, where you play out some champions and learn about the cards, movement and so forth. Until you are ready to hop on the main board and battle it out to the end. I truly wish there were more rulebooks like this out there!

A Two Player Game!……Yes and No!!

I have played this game in all its guises and it is best played with two or four people. Some argue that it can only be played with two players with a team of four champions each and will only play it as such. Yet, I like the variations with a four player game, two teams of two, all random all mid and so on. The game is reasonable quick, due to the factor that you start with a certain amount of Gallons of Glory tokens and when you lose them you are out. You gain these tokens by killing enemy champions and at the start of your turn you roll tension dice, if you roll a double you can take a token off another player and they can eliminate a token from the game. Hiding behind the trees is not going to work.

Another element of the game is the collection of gold and using it to buy additional weapons, buffs, minions and spells. So you fight each other and race around collecting the gold pieces spread all over the board. There are unique tiles printed on the board that represent the shop and it all adds to what is a very, very good game. When I play this game, it’s magic and beauty have me spell bound. Playing variations of team compositions and trying out the different shop items brings something new to the table every time.

Replay Value….Here come the Expansions!!

If you think that you might lose interest after a number of games, then guess again. Krosmaster Arena has a number of expansions, each expansion is mainly four new champions of diverse powers and abilities, with relevant cards and tokens. There are even more expansions in the pipeline, including a major winter expansion with a new game board and pieces. It just keeps on adding to the mix and even after you take a break from the game, coming back makes it all that sweeter. Krosmaster Arena can be played for free online as well, and the expansions have codes to release the more powerful champions. So you get a great board game, a miniatures collection and you can play online too!
